“Don’t Let Satan Attack Your Mind”

 As Christian believers there will always be times in our life when we come under attack from Satan, especially if you are seeking and growing in God’s Word.  One of the greatest areas where Satan will attack us, is in a battle with our minds.  He knows that our thoughts are the beginnings of everything we do.  His job is to get us thinking negative, critical and judgmental thoughts so that we miss out on what the Lord has for us.  He also wants to get your thoughts on the negative side, so you will be ineffective for the Kingdom of God.  Has Satan ever got you thinking negative thoughts about something you may have read or seen and you make a smart or wise comment about it?  If so, guess what?  Satan just accomplished what he set out to do and you missed out on something the Lord had for you.  Just something to think about.  It happens every day.  No matter what kind of thoughts Satan is trying to confuse you with, there are ways to get rid of them so you can win the battle that he is trying to cause in your mind.  First of all when he attacks, you need to take control of your thoughts with words from the Lord.  You can speak the word of God to get rid of the feelings and thoughts that Satan is putting on you.  He could be putting negative thoughts in your mind about……………….your marriage, your children, your health or about your income.  If you are not careful and walking in God’s Word daily and watching what you speak, Satan can make those negative thoughts come to life.

People do not realize it, but Satan can demand to have you, if you are not walking in God’s Word.  God has no other choice to let him, if you are not walking in His Word because He gives us a choice to choose between Him or the evil ways of the world.  The evil ways of the world can even be some of the smallest things you would not even think about or consider to be evil.  If you do not choose God, then you are fair game for Satan.

Another thing we can do is to remove or replace the thoughts that Satan tries to put in our minds.  As soon as the Holy Spirit begins to convict us that what we are thinking is wrong or will lead us to having a wrong behavior, then we need to, right then and not later, choose to stop thinking those thoughts.  For it says in 2nd Corinthians 10:5 that we are to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  So when Satan puts these thoughts in your mind, you need to stop and pray right where you are and ask God to give you strength to refocus your thinking on something good.  Once you throw out the wrong thoughts in your mind, you need to replace them with right thoughts.  Paul said in Philippians 4:8-9 that we are to fill and fix our minds on, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you”.  Start thinking the right thoughts and you can beat Satan in the battle with your mind.  One of the ways to help you think right thoughts is to purposely think of ways you can be a blessing to the people around you.   Galatians 6:10 says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.   In other words, this is saying that we are to fill our minds of ways to bring joy, help and hope to other people.  We all can do this by starting with prayer.  Each day when you wake up in the mornings, you should go to the Lord in prayer before you do anything else.  Not after you have taken a shower, not after you have had your first cup of coffee or burnt up your first smoke (if you are a smoker) of the day.  Go to God in prayer before you do anything, even before you get out of bed in the morning.  First thank Him for giving you another day and for other things that He has blessed you with.  Praise Him for who He is and what He has done for you.  Then you can ask Him how can you be a blessing today and how you can glorify Him.  Ask Him who He would like for you to pray for and to show you some things that you can do for other people.  Then after you have prayed, take a few minutes and try to think of ways that you can Bless someone.  Seek your spirit and see what God tells you.  Let Him use you to lift up or bless someone that may be having a battle in their mind with Satan.  The next thing you can do to win the battle that is going on in your mind is to talk back to Satan.  First you need to learn how to stand your ground and reject the lies that he tries to feed you.  The Bible says in the middle part of John 8:44 that the devil was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.  The only thing that will destroy Satan’s lies is the truth of God’s Word.  It says in the Book of Hebrews that God’s Word is living and active and that it is sharper than any double-edged sword that penetrates through the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Nothing is stronger than God’s Word.  Knowing His Word is great, but to truly begin waling in victory you have to speak the word out of your mouth.   When you choose to open your mouth and speak God’s Word, His power in you is released into the unseen atmosphere of the spirit, to destroy the enemies attack.   In Luke 4 you find a good example of how powerful God’s Word is when spoken.  You will see Satan tried to attack Jesus at the end of his forty day fast and that each time Satan spoke his lies, Jesus opened his mouth and spoke the truth.   Jesus said to Satan that “it is written” and then he quoted scripture that broke Satan’s attack.  Jesus gave all of us this same power.   To see it released, you have to open your mouth and speak the Word.  God’s Word is very powerful and it can shatter every lie the enemy brings, but just thinking or knowing it does not defeat the devil.   Some people just wish his attacks would stop and others just complain about them.  All this does is open the door for him to come in and cause more battles with your mind.  The only way you are going to win, is to open your mouth and speak the word of God.

So when Satan comes against you and puts all those thoughts in your mind, do not sit and listen to him.  Tell him, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and tell him that it says in 2nd Corinthians 5:21 and 12:9 that yes you have weakness, but in your weakness God’s strength is made perfect”.  If Satan tries to put thoughts in your mind that you do not have a future and that you will never overcome your past, tell him that God has a great future already planned for you.   God said in Jeremiah 29:11 that He has plans to prosper you and plans to give you hope and a future.   Also tell Satan you can overcome your past, because it says in Philippians 4:13 that you can do everything through Him who gives you strength.   And if Satan tries to tell you that your kids are not going to make it and that your marriage is going to end up in divorce, then tell him that he is nothing but a liar.  Tell him by God’s grace your kids are going to make it and that your marriage will last, because you have committed your marriage and kids to God and it says in 2nd Timothy 1:12 that God is able to guard what you have committed or entrusted to Him.   Luke 1:37 says “for nothing is impossible with God’.

When Satan brings the thoughts, do not give up.  That is the only way he can win.

Learn To Forgive

Mark 11:22-24 says, “Have faith in God, “Jesus answered.  “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.  Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will by yours.”

A lot of  people read these verses and get excited because they believe that whatever they ask for in prayer, will be given to them; if they believe that they received it by faith.  Jesus does say that you can have whatever you ask for in prayer, but it is not quite that easy.  You see, most people stop reading at the end of verse 24, but if you notice that verse 25 starts with the word “AND”.  The word “AND” indicates that verse 25 goes with verse 24 and that they both are meant to go together.  Then Jesus goes on and makes two more statements.  The 1st one is in Mark 11:25.  It says, “AND” when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”  Verse 25 is telling us about something that can hinder our faith and prayers.  We are told to forgive others, so that our Father in heaven may forgive us.  This is very important, because it is a sin to hold a grudge against someone.  You have to let it go and forget about it, no matter what someone may have done to you.  Someone might say it sounds easy to do, but you do not know what they did to me.  Well it does not matter what they did.  You are to forgive them regardless.  Jesus was perfect without sin and still He was unjustly betrayed, He was accused, rejected, tortured and crucified on the cross.  And still when they nailed Jesus to the cross, He said in Luke 23:34, “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”  In Colossians 3:13 it tells us to forgive whatever grievances we may have against one another, and to forgive as the Lord has forgiven us.  We should forgive in obedience to God’s Word, because if we do not, then we can not expect our faith to work.  God can not meet your needs according to His Word, if you are not living in line with His Word.

The second statement Jesus makes about something hindering your prayers is in Matthew 6:15, “But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”  If you notice, God is not talking to sinners, He is talking to believers.  Unforgiveness is one reason why many people do not ever fulfill the plan that God has for their life.  It is also one reason why many people do not receive answers to their prayers.  They might be able to quote the scriptures and make all the right confessions, but if they have any unforgiveness in their life, faith will not work for them.  When you start holding grudges, unforgiveness starts building up in your spirit, and if you are not careful, it will clog up the flow of your spirit and soon after that you will have nothing flowing in your life at all.  So if your spirit is clogged up with unforgiveness, you need to get on your knees before God and get it all out so your spirit can start flowing again.  When it says in God’s Word that we are to forgive, it does not necessary mean that you have to go to the person that you have unforgiveness towards, unless your spirit leads you do so.  If you spirit leads you to do so, then you need to go to that person and tell them that you forgive them for whatever it is they did.  However, it could mean something as simple as that when you are praying, God brings a remembrance to you that you have not forgiven someone of something.  Then you can simply say “God I forgive that person in my heart and I ask you now to forgive me for holding a grudge against them.”  Then it is a done deal.  If you do not get rid of all unforgiveness and you start holding grudges in one area and give Satan one inch of ground, he will start taking over other areas of your life and eventually he will back you into a corner.  Holding onto unforgiveness will affect the words that you speak because holding a grudge in your heart will eventually make you talk about it.  It says in Matthew 12:34, “that out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.”  Words are like containers.  They are either filled with hate, doubt, unforgiveness or they are filled with love, faith and forgiveness.  You control what is around you by the words you speak. So when you stand praying, forgive those who have done you wrong or people who are important to you.  Forgiving is not always an easy thing to do and if you have a hard time forgiving someone, you can always ask the Holy Spirit to help you forgive those who have sinned against you.

Jesus said in John 14:16-17 that He will ask the Father and He will give you another counselor, or helper, to be with you forever and that He will live with you and be in you.  The Holy Spirit is a Counselor, or helper and He is with you at all times.  So if you need His help, He will be there for you to call on.  If you still choose to hold a grudge, you will never experience the fullness that God has prepared for your life.  So choose to walk in forgiveness and refuse to hold anything against anyone.  If someone does you wrong, then forgive them and pray for them.  Paul said in Galatians that faith works by love, so you need to walk in love toward the ones who have done you wrong.  Love will overlook them, it will let it go and love forgives.  It is impossible for your faith to work without forgiveness and we need our faith to work in order to fulfill the plan for our life and to receive all the riches and glories that God has made for us.  So to have strong faith, you must also be strong in love and forgiveness. So no matter if someone offends or hurts you, you can not hold a grudge and expect God to use you.  Let God deal with them for the wrong that they did towards you.  Just remember you have a plan and a future in your life to fulfill.  So do not let yourself be cut off from the flow of God’s grace and presence, by holding a grudge against someone and not having total forgiveness in your heart.

A Balanced Life

Over the years as a young child up through my upper teens, I attended many different churches that were of a different religion (denomination).  They all seemed to teach God’s word from the Bible, but a lot of them also seemed to add their own rules and regulations to the word.  A lot of them did not believe or agree with the spiritual gifts that have been given to us by God Himself.  One of those gifts, being speaking in other tongues.  So as I got older and more into God’s word, I started seeing where the scriptures said under the obedience command in Deuteronomy 4:2 “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”

 Then I started seeing all through the books of Acts and 1st Corinthians, were it talked about speaking in other tongues and then some of the churches I attended were saying that speaking in other tongues was from the devil.  I was reading one thing and hearing another so confusion and unbalance was sitting in.  I decided to start looking for a church of non denomination where I could have a relationship with God and not have a religion.  I wanted to read the Word and let God give me the understanding that He put in His word, so I would have true understanding and not that of some religious beliefs.  Now if a person has received Salvation, by being religious and not have a relationship with God, is not going to keep them from going to Heaven, it just may keep them from receiving or understanding all that God has for their life.

 The more I desired God’s word and understanding, the closer and stronger my relationship with Him grew.  Some people have asked me before why some are able to get closer to God than others.  I tell them the #1 reason why some do is because of the time they put into it.  A lot of people think they do not have enough time to get into God’s word daily.  What they do not realize is, they do have the time and they just need to stop wasting it on other things.  Most people’s lives are unbalanced because they get real busy during the day and spend their time on wasted things.  They search the internet for nothing, they watch hours of Television, they make multiple trips to the store because they didn’t plan their first trip and they get caught up in the things of the world that the devil puts in their path to slow them down and make them unbalanced.  Then after wasting their time, they start worrying about the things they did not get done.  They start to worry about the things they have to do the next day and even into the next week. Matthew 6:34 says, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

 When people want something, they usually have to go and invest something to get it.  Most of the time that something is money, but if you want a closer relationship with God and a more balanced life, then your investment is the time you put into it.  The more you invest the more balanced you get and the closer you get to God and the larger your return.

 Have you ever noticed that when you start to invest some time in God’s word, is when the devil will start to try and keep you from it?  He will put thoughts in your mind of other things you could be or need to be doing, he will send people over to your house or have the phone start ringing, in order to distract you and keep you unbalanced.  You are not going to have that closer relationship with God, unless you learn how to say no to those other things, people or distractions that come when you are trying to invest some time in God’s word.  A lot of people think that they do not have to spend time with God to have a closer relationship with Him, because they spend time doing things for Him.  They think that since they spend time helping people, doing a good deed for the day or volunteering at church, that they are doing enough to have a close relationship with God.  No matter what all you do or how much of it you do, it does not replace your personal time with God.  God created us to have fellowship with Him and having fellowship with Him is the only thing that will maintain Joy, Peace, Happiness and Balance in your life.

 Chances are there is someone reading this that is not happy or has lost their joy and peace over something going on in their life that is causing them to be unbalanced.  Is that person you?  If it is you, chances are you are more than likely trying to find some kind of a reason or person to place the blame on why you are not happy or why you have lost your joy and peace.  The real reason is probably that you are not spending enough time with God.  Until you have fellowship with God and get that close relationship, your life is going to be unbalanced and you are not going to be completely happy or satisfied.

 Don’t be like some people that think they can be happy and satisfied without having a close relationship with God, because they are wrong.  God always brings happiness, peace, joy and satisfaction.  A good way to see this for yourself is to take an honest look at your life for a period of one week.  See what you are spending your time on and see if it is maintaining happiness, peace, joy and balance in your life.  Then for another week spend all your time on fellowshipping with God and digging yourself deep into His word.  At the end of that 2nd week, look back and see which week maintained the most happiness, peace, joy and balance in your life.  You will see that the time you Spent during the first week will be wasted and gone, but the time you Invested in the second week will bring you a closer relationship with God and a more balanced life.

 Most people will not seek a relationship with God until they have a need and they usually wait until they are desperate.  If you have children that are in their maturing years (or you were once one yourself), you will notice that they think they can do most things on their own without your help, or at least until they have waited to long and become desperate.  That is the way a lot of us are with God.  We only show up when we need something.  Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness”, and then the other things we need will be given to us.

 Start out by giving God 15-30 minutes every day to first seek His kingdom.  James 4:7-8 says, “Submit yourselves to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and He will come near to you.”

● Give yourself to God daily

● He wants more than just a weekly or monthly relationship with you.

● He wants you in His presence, on your knees and in His word.

● He wants a marriage with you.

● He wants that close relationship.

● He wants you to have a balanced life.

 A married woman does not get her husbands last name, until they make the commitment and get married.  Just like we do not get all that God has for us, until we make that commitment of a marriage relationship with His son Jesus Christ.  Back in Matthew 6:33 when God says “seek first His kingdom:, He is talking about His word, His presence, His glory and that close relationship with Him.  If you first seek the kingdom of God and get that close relationship with Him, you will have a more prosperous and balanced life than you have ever had before.  It is up to us how close of a relationship or how much of the presence of God is in our lives.  You can go to church, listen to ministers on the radio and television and hopefully you will learn about what is being said about God’s word.  But until you start putting your own eyes into the word and seeking that close relationship with God, it is not going to be enough to make the needed changes in your life.  It is all about Relationship and not Religion.

 One of the purposes that God created us for is to have a close relationship with Him.  He wants us to seek His kingdom first, but He gives the choice to us.  When we choose what road in our life that we are going to take, we are also choosing the destination where that road will take us.  Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus has been tempted in every way, as we are, yet without sin.  He did not have each temptation we have but He experienced every kind of temptation a person can have.  The closer the relationship we have with Him, the less sin we will have from some of the temptations.  The choice is up to us if we want to have a balanced or unbalanced life.

God is not in the business of making people do what they do not want to do.  He is a just God and He will not make you choose the road to His kingdom.  It is your choice and if you choose the other road that leads away, it says in Matthew 25:41, “Then He will say to those on His left, depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”  Hell is a real place and it was not created for man, but for the devil and his angels.  However, those who have attached themselves to the devil and not to Jesus will be pulled into the eternal fire with him.

 There is no chance for redemption in the eternal fire.  The devil and his angels have no chance of redemption, because they fell not by temptation, but by choice.  Man fell by temptation so if we choose the road to God’s kingdom, He will allow us redemption and a new birth.  It does not matter where we have been or what we have done, God has already forgotten about all of our sins.

 All He wants is for us to seek His kingdom first, have a close relationship with Him and have a balanced life.
