A Balanced Life

Over the years as a young child up through my upper teens, I attended many different churches that were of a different religion (denomination).  They all seemed to teach God’s word from the Bible, but a lot of them also seemed to add their own rules and regulations to the word.  A lot of them did not believe or agree with the spiritual gifts that have been given to us by God Himself.  One of those gifts, being speaking in other tongues.  So as I got older and more into God’s word, I started seeing where the scriptures said under the obedience command in Deuteronomy 4:2 “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”

Then I started seeing all through the books of Acts and 1st Corinthians, were it talked about speaking in other tongues and then some of the churches I attended were saying that speaking in other tongues was from the devil.  I was reading one thing and hearing another so confusion and unbalance was sitting in.  I decided to start looking for a church of non denomination where I could have a relationship with God and not have a religion.  I wanted to read the Word and let God give me the understanding that He put in His word, so I would have true understanding and not that of some religious beliefs.  Now if a person has received Salvation, by being religious and not have a relationship with God, is not going to keep them from going to Heaven, it just may keep them from receiving or understanding all that God has for their life.

The more I desired God’s word and understanding, the closer and stronger my relationship with Him grew.  Some people have asked me before why some are able to get closer to God than others.  I tell them the #1 reason why some do is because of the time they put into it.  A lot of people think they do not have enough time to get into God’s word daily.  What they do not realize is, they do have the time and they just need to stop wasting it on other things.  Most people’s lives are unbalanced because they get real busy during the day and spend their time on wasted things.  They search the internet for nothing, they watch hours of Television, they make multiple trips to the store because they didn’t plan their first trip and they get caught up in the things of the world that the devil puts in their path to slow them down and make them unbalanced.  Then after wasting their time, they start worrying about the things they did not get done.  They start to worry about the things they have to do the next day and even into the next week. Matthew 6:34 says, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

When people want something, they usually have to go and invest something to get it.  Most of the time that something is money, but if you want a closer relationship with God and a more balanced life, then your investment is the time you put into it.  The more you invest the more balanced you get and the closer you get to God and the larger your return.

Have you ever noticed that when you start to invest some time in God’s word, is when the devil will start to try and keep you from it?  He will put thoughts in your mind of other things you could be or need to be doing, he will send people over to your house or have the phone start ringing, in order to distract you and keep you unbalanced.  You are not going to have that closer relationship with God, unless you learn how to say no to those other things, people or distractions that come when you are trying to invest some time in God’s word.  A lot of people think that they do not have to spend time with God to have a closer relationship with Him, because they spend time doing things for Him.  They think that since they spend time helping people, doing a good deed for the day or volunteering at church, that they are doing enough to have a close relationship with God.  No matter what all you do or how much of it you do, it does not replace your personal time with God.  God created us to have fellowship with Him and having fellowship with Him is the only thing that will maintain Joy, Peace, Happiness and Balance in your life.

Chances are there is someone reading this that is not happy or has lost their joy and peace over something going on in their life that is causing them to be unbalanced.  Is that person you?  If it is you, chances are you are more than likely trying to find some kind of a reason or person to place the blame on why you are not happy or why you have lost your joy and peace.  The real reason is probably that you are not spending enough time with God.  Until you have fellowship with God and get that close relationship, your life is going to be unbalanced and you are not going to be completely happy or satisfied.

Don’t be like some people that think they can be happy and satisfied without having a close relationship with God, because they are wrong.  God always brings happiness, peace, joy and satisfaction.  A good way to see this for yourself is to take an honest look at your life for a period of one week.  See what you are spending your time on and see if it is maintaining happiness, peace, joy and balance in your life.  Then for another week spend all your time on fellowshipping with God and digging yourself deep into His word.  At the end of that 2nd week, look back and see which week maintained the most happiness, peace, joy and balance in your life.  You will see that the time you Spent during the first week will be wasted and gone, but the time you Invested in the second week will bring you a closer relationship with God and a more balanced life.

Most people will not seek a relationship with God until they have a need and they usually wait until they are desperate.  If you have children that are in their maturing years (or you were once one yourself), you will notice that they think they can do most things on their own without your help, or at least until they have waited to long and become desperate.  That is the way a lot of us are with God.  We only show up when we need something.  Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness”, and then the other things we need will be given to us.

Start out by giving God 15-30 minutes every day to first seek His kingdom.  James 4:7-8 says, “Submit yourselves to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and He will come near to you.”

● Give yourself to God daily

● He wants more than just a weekly or monthly relationship with you.

● He wants you in His presence, on your knees and in His word.

● He wants a marriage with you.

● He wants that close relationship.

● He wants you to have a balanced life.

A married woman does not get her husbands last name, until they make the commitment and get married.  Just like we do not get all that God has for us, until we make that commitment of a marriage relationship with His son Jesus Christ.  Back in Matthew 6:33 when God says “seek first His kingdom:, He is talking about His word, His presence, His glory and that close relationship with Him.  If you first seek the kingdom of God and get that close relationship with Him, you will have a more prosperous and balanced life than you have ever had before.  It is up to us how close of a relationship or how much of the presence of God is in our lives.  You can go to church, listen to ministers on the radio and television and hopefully you will learn about what is being said about God’s word.  But until you start putting your own eyes into the word and seeking that close relationship with God, it is not going to be enough to make the needed changes in your life.  It is all about Relationship and not Religion.

One of the purposes that God created us for is to have a close relationship with Him.  He wants us to seek His kingdom first, but He gives the choice to us.  When we choose what road in our life that we are going to take, we are also choosing the destination where that road will take us.  Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus has been tempted in every way, as we are, yet without sin.  He did not have each temptation we have but He experienced every kind of temptation a person can have.  The closer the relationship we have with Him, the less sin we will have from some of the temptations.  The choice is up to us if we want to have a balanced or unbalanced life.

God is not in the business of making people do what they do not want to do.  He is a just God and He will not make you choose the road to His kingdom.  It is your choice and if you choose the other road that leads away, it says in Matthew 25:41, “Then He will say to those on His left, depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”  Hell is a real place and it was not created for man, but for the devil and his angels.  However, those who have attached themselves to the devil and not to Jesus will be pulled into the eternal fire with him.

There is no chance for redemption in the eternal fire.  The devil and his angels have no chance of redemption, because they fell not by temptation, but by choice.  Man fell by temptation so if we choose the road to God’s kingdom, He will allow us redemption and a new birth.  It does not matter where we have been or what we have done, God has already forgotten about all of our sins.

All He wants is for us to seek His kingdom first, have a close relationship with Him and have a balanced life.
